OUR STORY
We are a sustainable menswear brand, committed to creating long lasting garments, reducing waste, supporting local communities and using fabrics made from organic and regenerated materials. Our first collection integrates functionality and comfort into a fresh and vibrant style that defines our brand. We are mostly proud of our Brazilian inspired swim briefs made from fishing nets and other waste that would otherwise pollute the Earth.
Our clothes are designed and produced locally and we partner with only one manufacturer that shares our values. We source only sustainable fabrics that are knitted/woven in Europe and carry a fair trade certification.
Moreover, we use plant based biodegradable mailer bags to get our products to your doorstep. These are made from a combination of PBAT, a bio based polymer which is compostable, and PLA which is made up of plant materials like cornstarch, allowing them to break down in only 180 days in a domestic compost.
We believe change is needed in the fashion industry to regain harmony with nature and we are committed to contribute to that change.
WHO MADE YOUR CLOTHES
We partner with an independent garments manufacturer that like us, understands the impact human activity has on the environment.
They follow strict ethical standards and use sustainable fabrics that are knitted/woven in Europe, lowering their carbon footprint and supporting the production of raw materials within the region. They use fabrics that are OEKO TEX 100, OCS 100, GOTS, GRS, RCS 100 certified and ensure that sustainability and employee wellbeing standards are maintained.
We are fully aware of the human lives involved in the production process of our clothes. We make frequent visits to the facilities where our clothes are made to ensure that workers are not exploited and to ensure that no child labour or forced labour is being used. Our manufacturing partner has been very supportive in communicating working conditions and has shown transparency when it comes to health and safety, which is of the highest standards.
BAMBOO
Eco-friendly fabrics are those safer for the environment, whether recycled, or biodegradable. The most popular ones are organic cotton, bamboo, hemp, as well as anything that is recycled and used in a new garment.
Bamboo is a fast growing and renewable tree-like grass that can be grown in a variety of climates without the use of pesticides, requires little water and absorbs a high amount of carbon dioxide. In optimal conditions bamboo can grow up to 36 inches every 24 hours, making it an ideal renewable source for the production of sustainable fabrics.
Even though bamboo is renewable and natural, some of the ways in which the fibres are processed to create the textiles, may not be as sustainable due to the use of harmful chemicals. The lyocell fibre which is used to make our t-shirts and vests, has a lower environmental impact as it is produced in a closed-loop cycle where no harmful chemicals are added and the water used to breakdown the bamboo pulp is reused during future manufacturing and not released onto the environment.
Our collection includes products made of 96% bamboo and also ECONYL®, a branded fibre we are mostly proud of using as it is a regenerated nylon made from lost and abandon fishing nets extracted from the ocean and other pre and post-consumer waste like carpet fluff.
ECONYL®
ECONYL® is a regenerated nylon fibre made from waste that would otherwise pollute the Earth such as fishing nets, carpet fluff and fabric scraps. This regenerated material was developed by the global leading manufacturer, Aquafil which started recycling nylon in the 90s and implemented the production of ECONYL® within a closed-cycle process in 2011.
So how is it made? Firstly, waste is taken to the Aquafil collection and recycling facilities, then the nylon polymer is broken down into monomers by a process that requires only temperature and steam without the use of harmful chemicals and finally the nylon is re-polymerised to create the final ECONYL® regenerated product.
Aquafil claims that the production of ECONYL® reduces the environmental impact of nylon by 90% if compared with the material from crude oil. For every 10,000 tons of ECONYL® raw material, 70k barrels of crude oil are saved and more than 65k tones of CO2 emissions are avoided.
Many fashion brands, big and small, interested in driving the sustainable approach in the fashion industry, now use this type of fibre to create a range of products from designer handbags to activewear. We are proud of using ECONYL® to create our Miami Long Shorts and Rio Sungas (Brazilian inspired swim briefs).
